Why a mommy blog?
This is a Mommy Blog is an homage to the mommy blogs I obsessed over as a teenager, when the word “blogosphere” was being thrown around and diet culture was far from being unpacked. My first post is a good place to get started if you want to understand what this is all about. You can also hop right in; it’s not that complicated.
And who the hell am I?
My name is Lael, and I am a mom, a writer, and a reformed stand-up comedian. I’m also an avid reader and a TV watcher. I live in the suburbs with my husband, son, dog, and many things I have purchased online or otherwise. I am a decent but messy cook. I give good hugs and make good chocolate chip cookies. If I were asked to describe myself in three words, I would ask in return that I not participate in such an exercise.
Do you like me?
It’s important to me that you like me. Even if I don’t like you, you have to like me. That’s the deal. If you don’t like me or this Substack, don’t tell me, ‘cause that’ll ruin my day. If you do like me — tell me, right now. I need small bouts of validation from now until my last breath rattles through me.
